OwlJones.com and J. Stockard Fly Fishing are proud to announce OJDC’s First Annual Fly Tying Competition.

The idea is simple: Everyone that ties flies has something they tie better than everything else. Send us that fly to enter the Competition. We’ll be judging them on proportion, originality, creativity, precision and overall appearance.

Each person who enters will receive a discount code from J. Stockard for $5.00 off a purchase!

GRAND PRIZE is a Wind River 8’6 5wt. fly rod AND a $25 Gift Card to J. Stockard Fly Fishing!

Grand Prize: A Wind River 5 wt. and $25 Gift Card to J. Stockard Fly Fishing!

You may enter more than once, but each entry must be a distinctly different fly.  Some entries will be featured on the OwlJones.com! Additionally, some entries will be featured on our Facebook page, our Twitter feed and/or our Google+ Pages – with appropriate credit to the person who tied the fly, of course!

The Competition will run from the first day of February to the last day of March. Flies submitted after March 31st will not be entered into the contest, nor will they appear on our websites.  :(

Unfortunately, the flies can’t be returned to their owners - but we will put them all together in a J. Stockard fly box and have a drawing for the complete set of entries among those who did not win the Grand Prize!

The Official Rules

  • All flies must be tied by the entrant and received by mail no later than March 31, 2012
  • The Honor-System applies – do not submit a fly you purchased – only a fly you personally tied.
  • Flies MUST INCLUDE an information sheet or small note card with your name, email address and the “recipe” for the fly. (Multiple entries can have info on one sheet/card as long as we can read it )
  • All submissions grant OwlJones.com the right to publish and pimp your flies! (post photographs and/or descriptions of the entry on OwlJones.com or other social media sites in the OwlJones.com family)
  • Flies that do not include the information sheet/note card with recipe will be disqualified.
  • By sending in a submission, you grant us the right to combine your entry with other entries and give away the set of all entries to a randomly drawn contestant who did not win the Grand Prize.
  • Amateur and professional tiers are encouraged to submit flies. This contest is open to anyone.
  • Other Rules as deemed necessary may be added and these rules may be modified where needed should unforeseen issues arise requiring such a rule amendment. ( Just in case we forgot something important! )
  •  Flies will be judged by a committee of fly tiers and writers/bloggers, and the Top 5 Flies will be posted up for a public vote on OwlJones.com to determine the Grand Prize Winner!
  • The Grand Prize Winner must respond via email or other means within 48 hours of winning the contest. Failure to reply and accept the Grand Prize will result in the Grand Prize being awarded to the contestant with the next highest vote total.
  • All decisions of the judges are final. Public voting totals which determine the Grand Prize Winner are final.
Linking to, blogging about, tweeting, or otherwise sharing the contest with the world will not help your chances in the contest, but it will earn one lucky reader a bonus prize for spreadin’ the word!
So don’t wait until the last minute! Get those flies in early so we can have a good, long look at ‘em.
To enter a fly, please email us using the contact form on this website or by clicking: Contest Email
GOOD LUCK!

This looks cool! Great timing, as I’m starting to experiment more with different techniques for fly tying!

Great Albert! Send us a fly or three when you get time! Should be alot of fun to see all the different flies come in and we’ll share ‘em with everyone once we start getting them coming in. Thanks for the comment!
