“I believe in supporting companies and products I think are great, and I also believe that online entertainment has to pay its bills, and smart, ethical sponsorships are the answer to that…” ~ Julia Allison

If you’re like me – wait. Let’s start again…

I’d never heard of “Julia Allison.” Maybe you’ve never heard of her, either. Apparently though, lots of people have heard of her. It seems Ms. Allison is “internet famous.” Now I’m not gonna lie to you folks about how I ran across her. See, I was looking at fly fishing stuff – just minding my own business….when up popped this website about “How to become Internet Famous in 10 Easy Steps.”

Of course, I didn’t read it. I just looked at the pictures. I’ve been big into picture looking since I was little. Once we got into second grade and the books all started to have words and paragraphs, I just really got turned off on reading. Anyhoot…

Julia it seems, has made herself into an internet sensation. Seriously, though – I’d never heard of her…much like she’s never heard of Owl Jones, I’m sure. There wasn’t even going to be a blog post about her on OJDC (ever.) until I read that quote. Here is is again:

“I believe in supporting companies and products I think are great, and I also believe that online entertainment has to pay its bills, and smart, ethical sponsorships are the answer to that…”

It seems as though Julia and I have something in common. “Smart, ethical sponsorships.” I’d also add “fully disclosed” to the mix, but you get the idea. But the idea you shouldn’t get (oh potential and highly sought after big-name advertisers) is that OwlJones.com is against advertising, sponsorships, pro-staff appointments, free review gear, etc. We just won’t do “paid editorials,” “sponsored links,” or “cash for praise” stuff. Why not? Because we have something a few of our fellow fly fishing blogs seem to lack…..A backbone and a moral responsibility to our readers and fans.

So anyway, the brass tacks of it all is that over the course of 2012 you may begin to see a few ads here and there, but whatever company or product finds it’s way onto OJDC, you can be sure we are 100% behind them and whatever goods or services they’re peddling.  And as always, our product reviews will stay 100% unbiased and honest. So if you have a stinky product that isn’t worth half what you’re asking for it, please send it to this guy.

So what’s all this got to do with fly fishing?

Beats me!  I just needed a blog post today. ;)

Here. Now it's about fishing. Sort of. OK, not really...

I’m sure you could catch fish on it in the right situation. Stocked pond, stocked trout, etc. Maybe I should get a couple and make videos with ‘em. :)
