It begins TODAY!

Send us just one fly to enter and you could win a new Wind River 5wt. fly rod and a $25 Gift Card to J. Stockard Fly Tying. The details and rules on how to enter are HERE or by simply clicking the photo of the fly rod to your right! —>

“Hey Owl, who is this J. Stockard company?” Well, as I’m finding out, many of you have never heard of them – but here at OJDC we’ve been buying our tying supplies from them for over a year now. J. Stockard has a great clearance page, lots of sales and almost anything you could want for fly tying – and the shipping is always super fast. They are, in a word: Fantastic.

They also sell rod building supplies, how-to DVD’s and fly lines. But I think the biggest reason to buy your supplies from them is the customer service. They have that home-town fly shop feel to them that I’ve yet to experience anywhere else online from any of the larger retailers and they will answer any question you throw at them.

And the prices! Can’t forget that – they sell the same name-brand materials as everyone else, but usually for a lower price than everyone else – and that’s not including the sales! Right now, all hair and fur is 20% off and all silk thread and floss is 15% off. They also have a Frequent Flyer rewards program for return customers. We don’t do “affiliate links” here so trust me, the only thing I’m getting from sharing these pages with you is the satisfaction in knowing that I’m sharing a good deal.

“Oh come on, Owl. Surely you get something for doing this?”  The world is full of skeptics, huh?

Well, J. Stockard is supplying the $25 Gift Card for this fly tying contest, and they did donate a $25 gift card for us to give away last year, too – but I really do get all my fly tying supplies from them and I frequently promote them on my twitter feed. (which is now at over 900 followers! yay twitter!) In other words, we’d be telling you to check them out even if they weren’t supporting this contest. Fair enough?

So what are you waiting for? If you tie your own flies, you could win this rod! Contact me at This Email or use the Contact Form to find out where to send your entry. One little fly could win you one new 5 wt. fly rod! Lenny are you out thereHow neat is that?!

Oh, and just so everyone is clear about what happens to all the flies – each person who enters a fly will have a shot at winning all the flies entered after the contest is over. Unless you’re lucky enough to win the Rod and Gift Card first. :)

Actually, everyone who doesn’t win the Grand Prize will have a shot at winning the complete set of entered flies! How’s that for lucky!

What are they flies being judged on?

Owl Jones February 1, 2012 at 9:54 pm

The flies will be judged independently by a panel of 5 bloggers, myself included. There is no set criteria. I’m simply asking the judges to list their top 5 flies (or top 10 if necessary). Then, the top 5 flies will be posted on OJDC and voted on by everyone. Whoever gets the most votes on the site here wins the prize! Then, we’ll have a drawing for the set of flies that were entered. Also, everyone who enters gets a digital coupon for $5 off an order from J. Stockard! Everyone wins something! yay everyone! :)

That doesn’t sound too shabby. I’ll have to see what I can come up with.
