in Blog News

Lately, there have been a few bloggers that have really been nailing it. If you’re not reading what these folks have to say, you’re missing out on some great stuff.

Ole Howard over at Windknots and Tangled Lines has been cranking out some great stuff, including his very clever Holiday Gift Guide. We’re pretty sure it’s a Gift Guide for the holiday of Christmas, but if you want to use it for Arbor Day it would probably work for that as well.

A new find for me was The Gut Bucket blog. We already added it to the blogroll and I’ve been enjoying reading “back issues” this week. It’s a blog full of deer, bass, family, and ….deer balls? That’s right, and who doesn’t love deer balls for the holidays Christmas? Be sure to check this one out.

Firing on all cylinders lately is FuncFish. Hagfish, blog improvements, late season bass and some new thing where instead of fish you can catch the bugs that fish eat. We’re not sure if he fried it or baked it, but either way it was probably a pretty filling meal.

On a totally unrelated note: Before I was known as Owl, I was "The Eagle" in my junior year at Northside High School, Warner Robins GA. Orange tights were involved but I'll spare you the details. Congrats to the Eagles for making it to the semi-finals again this year! Two more to go for another State Championship! GO BIG BLUE! And if you end up playing those nasty Demons, I hope you beat them up and down that field all night.

And then, there’s Mike over at Dub the Thorax. If you’re unfamiliar with fly tying jargon, the blog title might sound like some sort of adult film, but I promise you there’s no nekkid photos (that I’ve found so far) and even if there were, it’d probably be like nekkid photos of me. Nothing you want to see. Anyway, his latest tale of angling adventure is where you should start, and work your way in from there. Lots of great stuff to be had, weird name or not.

And finally, there’s The African Fly Angler whose stories and amazing photography from half way around the world always amaze me. If you need some interesting reading, great fly tying and beautiful scenery then this is the blog for you. PS – make sure you visit The Shop to see some unusual fly tying stuff. Who wouldn’t want to fish here?

Happy surfin’. :)

Funny, I was just telling a fellow blogger last week that I get a lot of traffic from google searches for “thorax sex”.

Thanks for the shoutout!

Now I need to figure out how to nonchalantly photoshop a naked picture of you somewhere in my blog.

You’re tired of people reading it, then. I mean, I can only assume.

As always thank you for the kind words Owl! Been on a bit of a hiatus due to family issues but once things sort themselves out I’m kicking it up a notch!

Hey owlbuddy, thanks for the shout out. Actually, with no fishing going on I’m finding out that it’s rather hard to write a fishing blog.

Owl Jones November 30, 2011 at 11:52 am

I read it because I think of it as a “Howard” blog first, fishing blog second. :)

Hi Owl

Thanks for the shout out. Been quite on my blog lately but hopefully I can rectify that soon.

That’s alright! There’s plenty of great stuff on there from this year to keep anyone busy for a long time! :)
