Larry the Cable Guy, Explained.

in Angling Across America

There are alot of things I can’t explain in this world….

Why I’ve been leaving stuff on various riverbanks.

Why butterfly poop doesn’t smell. ( Does it?)

Why big rigs in the American West wait until the absolute last second to pull out in front of you ( and go the same speed as the truck in front of it ) to pass another truck that it’s been following for the last 3 miles.

But there’s one thing I can answer now that I’ve been wondering for a long, long time. . . . . what in the world is wrong with that Larry the Cable guy dude?

Tonight, while riding around looking for a BBQ joint here in Nebraska I figured it all out. I think Larry must have been in a traffic accident as a child at one of the cross-roads here in NE that doesn’t have stop signs. That’s right – no stop signs….not on the main streets or the crossing streets. 4-way stops without signs. You know what this Georgia boy did when he came up on one of these death trap intersections? Well, he stopped. I mean, I’ve got some common sense ya know? And I guess everyone here in NE must have common sense too, since they all stopped when they came to one too.

Wait a minute…..no they didn’t. These Nebraskans just zoomed right through intersection after intersection….remember…it’s like a 4-way intersection that you might go through every day. Now, imagine that without any kind of stop-signs, lights…..anything. Maybe these folks up here are just better drivers than we are down south, because if we took out the stop-signs in GA, we’d have to post up an ambulance on every corner!?

So even though I don’t get the lack of stop-signs at intersections….I’m pretty sure ‘ole Larry must have hit his noggin on the dashboard of a 79 Pinto a few times growin’ up in Nebraska.

Sorry guys. I’m brain dead. Can you tell?

It sure is a strange place. I liked Omaha though. oh well. Keep trucking on!

Speaking of Omaha – I’m hoping to avoid the 100 mile detour I took coming up (because of the MO river flooding) by cutting through a corner of kansas.

Thanks. If I can stay awake for the rest of NE and Kansas I’ll be ok. :)

Can’t wait to hear more about your trip, nice report!

It’s got a name: “unmarked intersection”

As you approach, look both ways.
If nothing is coming, put the hammer down and don’t stop.
If someone is coming, slow down until you can decide which person is more polite.
If a southerner is stopped waiting for an opening, put the hammer down. He won’t move.

I figured it would have a name like ” Insurance Claim Interchange.” :) LOL
